Health Hazard Information

 

Health Effects:

 

Main Symptoms:

No adverse health effects expected if the product is handled in accordance with the label directions. If mishandled the following symptoms could arise:

 

Swallowed:

No adverse effects however large amounts could cause nausea, vomiting, loss of muscle rigidity, cyanosis, sluggishness, diarrhoea and incontinence

 

Eye:

May be an eye irritant

 

Skin:

May result in irritation

 

Inhaled:

Where this material is used in a poorly ventilated area and/or at elevated temperatures and/or in confined spaces vapour may cause irritation to mucous membranes and respiratory tract, headache and nausea

 

Long Term Effects:

Prolonged skin contact may lead to dermatitis effects

 

Acute Toxicity/Chronic Toxicity

 

LD50 for Sodium Flupropanate:

Oral LD50: Rats (10.6-12.0 g/kg); Mice (9.24g/kg). No observable adverse effects were reported in rats fed 5 mg/kg/day and mice fed 5.6 mg/kg/day for three months and six months respectively

Mild irritant (rabbit)

Dermal LD50: Rats (>5g/kg); Mice (>2g/kg). Mild irritant (rabbit)

Inhaled:

Inhalation LD50: Rats (>1740 mg/m3/ 14days)

Ecological Information

 

Aquatic Toxicity:

Harmless to aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate waterways.

 

Terrestrial:

Oral LD50 :  Male quail: 6.75 g/L. ; Female quail: 11 g/kg

 

Persistence:

Flupropanate is highly soluble in water and immobile in soils probably due to adsorption onto clay sols. It is resistant to biodegradation in the soil but is readily excreted in animals. Sodium flupropanate administered to rats was not detected in internal organs after 14 days. Sodium flupropanate when applied to white clover at a rate equivalent to 19.3 litres per ha of TASKFORCE� had reduced to 256 ppm in plant residues after 3 months.

 

Disposal:

Triple rinse or preferably pressure rinse containers before disposal. Add rinsings to the spray tank. Do NOT dispose of undiluted product on site. If recycling, replace cap and return clean containers to recycler or designated collection point. If not recycling, break, crush, puncture and bury empty containers in a local authority landfill. If not available bury the containers below 500 mm in a disposal pit specifically set up for this purpose clear of waterways, dams, vegetation and roots. Empty containers and product should not be burnt.

 

Safe Handling Information

 

Storage & Transport:

Store as per label directions in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Not considered as Dangerous Goods under ADG Code for road and rail transport

 

Spills & Disposal:

Contain spills. Use sand or similar material to contain and absorb product. Dispose of this material according to instructions under disposal.

 

Fire / Explosion Hazard:

Not flammable or explosive at temperatures below 165C
